A big swing in weather conditions is in the forecast for the rest of the week with nearly 60-degree temperatures today and the chance for a dusting of snow on Friday ahead of a bitter cold weekend.
Rain is moving the out of the area this morning and clearing skies will lead to an afternoon with sunshine and temperatures climbing into the mid 50s in northwestern areas to around 60 in South Jersey, forecasters say.
Winds could gust to about 20 mph, making it feel a bit cooler.
Overnight temps will be seasonable — falling into the 30s and winds will diminish.
Wednesday starts off with pretty pleasant conditions before another round of rain arrives in the afternoon and lasts through the evening.
Rain amounts are expected to range from a quarter inch south and east of the Interstate 95 corridor to about three-quarters of an inch north and west.
It’s possible rain might hold off until the evening in South Jersey. Highs will range from the mid 40s to low 50s.
Cooler, dry conditions return on Thursday as we’ll have sunny skies and highs in the 40s that drop into the 20s and 30s at night.
On Friday, there’s a 20% to 40% chance of precipitation that includes what the weather service called a weak “clipper” system that could bring light snow to northern New Jersey and a mix of rain and light snow elsewhere.
“There does not look to be any significant impacts to the area at this time,” the weather service said in its morning forecast discussion.
Early indications are that the weekend will be dry, sunny and cold with highs in the 30s on Saturday and the mid-to-upper 20s for much of the state Sunday.
Overnight lows during the weekend will be frigid with lows falling into the teens.
