Parts of northwestern New Jersey could see a coating to an inch of snow along with a dangerous layer of ice Sunday night into Monday, making for a slick morning commute to start the work week.
While the snowfall totals are expected to be low, the National Weather Service is tracking the potential for changes in the ice forecast as freezing rain mixes with snow and plain rain.
Forecasters “for now have kept ice amounts light, mainly less than a tenth of an inch, but higher amounts are
possible depending on just how the situation evolves,” the weather service said early Saturday. “This will
be a troublesome forecast right up until it is happening.”
A slight shift in temperatures could change the outcome and driving could be slick across northwestern counties to start the work week early Monday.
Most of the state south of I-95 should see rain from the storm.
Saturday is expected to be dry and chilly across New Jersey with temperatures in the 30s. Overnight lows will dip into the 20s.
Highs on Sunday could hit 40 degrees in parts of the state as clouds increase through the day. Temperatures will drop to around the freezing mark at night setting the stage for the wintry mix in parts of the state.
More much-needed rain is likely Monday and Tuesday as temperatures increase to the 40s and 50s across much of the state.
