Amtrak has temporarily suspended service between Philadelphia and New York on Sunday morning amid freezing temperatures in the region.
Trains are halted between the two cities due to downed overhead wires, Amtrak said in a statement Sunday morning. The service is not expected to resume until noon, according to an update posted at about 8 a.m.
The Amtrak issues are also impacting NJ Transit trains near Philadelphia. Trains on the Atlantic City Rail Line between Cherry Hill and Philadelphia 30th Street are suspended in both directions due to the downed wires as of Sunday morning, according to an alert from NJ Transit. The affected wires are near Philadelphia 30th Street, according to the alert.
The downed wires could pose some trouble for travelers this holiday season with just days to go before Christmas and Hanukkah.
The delay comes as freezing temperatures plague much of New Jersey on Sunday morning. The National Weather Service reported that the region will see temperatures that are 20 degrees below normal for this time of year, with the high temperatures reaching only the 20s and lows expected to be in the single-digits and low-teens.
