Another day of bitter-cold temperatures is in store for New Jersey as an Arctic front sticks around a little while longer.
Wind chills are in the single digits and teens across the Garden State, with temperatures ranging from 12 in High Point to 21 in West Cape May as of about 7:30 a.m., according to the National Weather Service. The real-feel temperature in Newark is 6 degrees, according to Weather.com.
It marks the coldest air to hit New Jersey in two years, according to a NWS Mount Holly report, which said temperatures are almost 20 degree below normal for late December. High temperatures are predicted to be in the 20s for most of the state, and low temperatures will be back in the single digits to low teens.
It won’t get too much warmer Monday, with highs making their way only into the mid-20s under mostly sunny skies.
The good news is milder temperatures starting Tuesday should bring better weather conditions for holiday travel this week.
That’s the word from AccuWeather forecasters, who are predicting only a brief rain or snow shower on Christmas Eve morning at Newark International Liberty Airport. Above-freezing temperatures throughout the state Tuesday will lower the chance of icy conditions for drivers.
The Christmas forecast in Trenton calls for a high temperature of 41 degrees, with intervals of clouds and sunshine during the day, according to AccuWeather. Nighttime temperatures are expected to be in the mid-20s.
