New Jersey may ring in the New Year with a rumble as showers and thunderstorms move into the area Tuesday evening.
While the weather is expected to remain dry and unseasonably warm during the day, a period of moderate to heavy showers is possible Tuesday evening, forecasters say.
Clouds will rapidly increase and thicken late in the afternoon with some rain expected in the 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. timeframe, according to the National Weather Service Mount Holly morning forecast discussion.
Partygoers can expect rain, heavy at times, and scattered rolling thunder as New Year’s Eve festivities kick off this evening. Small hail is possible in the northeast part of the state, according to the National Weather Service.
Total rainfall amounts for New Year’s Eve day could range from around half to three quarters of an inch in northern New Jersey. A quarter to half inch of rain is expected over the southern half of the state.
However, the rain should be out of here just as 2025 arrives.
A dry morning and afternoon is expected across the area on New Year’s Eve. It should remain fairly sunny through the first half of the day with some passing clouds. It will also be another relatively mild day following a chilly morning, with highs in the low 50s for most.
While not expected to be in the top five warmest New Year’s Eves at midnight tonight, it’ll be on the warmer side.
As things dry out New Years Day, temperatures will get into the 40s, with wind gusts up to 40 miles per hour.
