It’s take two for a group of New Jersey towns trying to hold off the implementation of the state’s controversial new affordable housing law.
The bipartisan coalition — which is suing the state over a new law designed to create more affordable housing — is once again asking a state judge to pause the start of the new rules in the latest legal twist in the bitterly-contested fight.
Led by Montvale Mayor Michael Ghassali, the coalition, called “Local Leaders for Responsible Planning,” announced Tuesday it filed a new motion in court. The group is asking a judge to delay a Jan. 31 deadline for municipalities to either adopt the state’s newest guidance on how much affordable housing each municipality should have, or provide their own calculations.
