Stanley is recalling two of its popular tumblers sold at retailers nationwide, such as Amazon, Walmart, Target and Dick’s Sporting Goods, due to a potential burn risk.
Stanley is recalling 2.6 million Switchback and Trigger Action Travel Mugs sold in the U.S., according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission.
The company has found that when the mugs are exposed to heat and torque, the lid threads can shrink, causing the lid to come off and cause a burn hazard.
Stanley has received 91 reports,16 of those coming from the U.S., of the lids detaching while people are using the tumblers.
The company has also received 38 reports of burn injuries worldwide with two of those cases in the U.S. due to the defective lids.
Eleven people around the world required medical attention due to their burn injuries, according to the CPSC.
The travel mugs were sold in-store and online for $20-$50 — depending on the model — from June 2016 through December 2024.
The mugs are double-walled with a polypropylene lid. They come in several colors, including white, black and green, along with multiple sizes, including 12 ounces, 16 ounces and 20 ounces. You can also see the Stanley logo on the front and bottom of the mug.
A full list of product identification numbers printed on the bottom of the mugs is available here.
The agency and Stanley are warning consumers not to use the recalled travel mugs and to contact the company to get a free replacement lid.
