Wet, windy weather is in the forecast for New Jersey starting late Tuesday with 2 to 3 inches of rain expected by Wednesday evening along with wind gusts that reach as high as 45 mph.
Tuesday starts out with a dense fog advisory for most of the state, effective until noon, on what will be a dry, cloudy day with high temperatures in the 50s — a few degrees above normal for this time of year.
Though there could be some showers in the afternoon and evening, widespread rain doesn’t move in until Tuesday night, the National Weather Service said in its morning forecast discussion.
Strong wind gusts and potential power outages will be the storm’s biggest threat, forecasters said.
By Wednesday, winds will gust to 25 to 35 mph across New Jersey, with gusts of up to 45 mph possible along the Jersey Shore, according to forecasters.
Temperatures will be mild and in the 60s by afternoon as rain falls.
Flooding in urban areas and areas with poor drainage is possible, but widespread flooding is not a concern due to ongoing severe and extreme drought conditions across the state. Water could also pond on roads, complicating travel.
“Wednesday is shaping up to be a very wet day up and down the I-95 corridor from northern Florida all the way to Maine,” AccuWeather.com said. “Both the morning and evening commutes … can be slowed by downpours, which can also cause localized flooding.”
Rain will finally push out from west to east on Wednesday night into Thursday, though gusty winds will stick around Thursday on a very chilly day.
High temperatures on Thursday will only range from the low 30s in northwestern areas to the mid- to upper 30s in other parts of the state.
Plus, winds that gust to 25 to 30 mph will make it feel about 10 degrees colder even though the sun will be out.
Winds will finally decrease Thursday night, but it remains cold with lows dipping into the teens and 20s.
Friday and Saturday will also be sunny and chilly in the 30s and low 40s with more rain possible Sunday.
