Morristown earned national recognition this week when it was named in the top 10 of Fortune’s Best Places to Live for Families in 2024.
The Morris County municipality ranked No. 9 in the third annual list published Tuesday by Fortune Well, a subsidiary of the business magazine. The publication cited Morristown’s location and steady growth in recent years as significant factors in its selection.
“An hour on NJ Transit to New York City, it’s far enough away to act as a refuge from the hustle and bustle of the concrete jungle, yet close enough for a weekend trip or commute to work on a hybrid schedule,” Fortune wrote.
Fortune ranked more than 2,000 cities across the U.S. in this year’s study, with one town in all 50 states making the list. High-ranking towns generally received positive reviews in areas like health care, education, affordability and resources for senior citizens.
The ranking took note of Morristown’s connection to history, particularly its status as the “Capital of the American Revolution” and close links to George Washington. The first president lived in what is now the Ford Mansion and Museum for several years, and he and his troops spent the winter at Morristown National Historical Park during the war in 1779 and 1780.
Morristown serves as the corporate headquarters for hundreds of companies, highlighting the area’s strong economy featuring plenty of job opportunities. The health and wellness company Sharecare ranked the town’s community well-being at 75 out of 100 and its financial well-being at 66 out of 100.
