MORRIS COUNTY, NJ — While New York claims to be the bagel capital of America, many New Jersey residents would argue otherwise.
In celebration of National Bagel Day last week, NJ.com ranked the 53 best bagel shops in the state—and several Morris County spots made the list.
Alfa Bagels in Randolph was ranked the highest in all of Morris County, coming in at spot number three.
Located at 587 State Route 10 in Randolph, Alfa Bagels is a “must-stop” for all bagel enthusiasts. The shop offers twelve varieties on the menu, including classic options like egg, sesame, pumpernickel, cinnamon raisin and everything bagels.
In addition to your typical bagel and cream cheese, Alfa also serves classic breakfast sandwiches, including Bacon, Egg, and Cheese, as well as Taylor Ham.
“If you haven’t tried them, do yourself a favor and go,” a Patch reader shared.
Ranked at number 28, Morris Plains’ Time for a Bagel is the second Morris County location to make the list.
Located across from the Morris Plains train station at 680 Speedwell Avenue, Time for a Bagel has been serving fresh hand-rolled bagels since 1996 and offers 23 different types of bagels and more than 20 different spreads.
The menu features a variety of breakfast classics, including a plant-based version of their iconic Sausage & Egg sandwich.
“I’ve eaten bagels all over NYC and have yet to find one that’s better than TFAB,” a Patch reader previously shared.
The third establishment to make the list is Boonton Bagels, coming in at spot number 52.
Boonton Bagels and Gourmet Deli, located at 520 Myrtle Avenue, was founded more than two decades ago. In addition to their bagel offerings, the shop is also known for its freshly made cinnamon buns, crafted with high-quality ingredients sourced locally in Boonton.
Boonton Bagels offers a menu featuring 13 different bagel options, including Marble Rye, Blueberry, and the classic Salt Bagel. To pair with these, customers can choose from a variety of cream cheese options, such as Walnut Raisin, Green Olive, Hot Peppers and Lox Spread.
The eatery is open Monday through Saturday from 4 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and on Sunday from 4 a.m. to 4 p.m.
