Assembly Minority Whip Brian Bergen (R-Denville) and Parsippany Mayor Jamie Barberio haven’t always gotten along, but in a display of party unity, Bergen has endorsed Barberio for re-election in a GOP primary fight with Councilman Justin Musella.
“Jamie Barberio has been a steadfast leader for Parsippany and a valued member of the 26th District team,” said Bergen. “Under his leadership, Parsippany has seen meaningful progress in fiscal responsibility, infrastructure improvements, and maintaining the quality of life that residents deserve.”
Bergen’s running mate, Assemblyman Jay Webber (R-Morris Plains), is a longtime Barberio ally and endorsed his re-election bid last November.
“Day in and day out, Jamie demonstrates in ways big and small that his only agenda is serving the residents of Parsippany,” said Webber.
Morris County Republican Chair Laura Marie Ali has attempted to create a unity ticket with Barberio for mayor and Musella for re-election to his council seat.
In 2023, Barberio supported former Assemblywoman Betty Lou DeCroce (R-Parsippany) in her challenge to Bergen in the GOP primary.
All nine Republican mayors from the 26th legislative district are supporting Barberio: James Lynch (Boonton); Tom Andes (Denville); Joseph Pannullo (East Hanover); Mark Taylor (Florham Park); Ace Gallagher (Hanover); David Runfeldt (Lincoln Park); Matt Kayne (Montville); John Driesse (Pequannock); and Paul Carelli (Riverdale).
Musella said he was unconcerned by Bergen’s endorsement.
“Great to see Mayor Barberio getting so much support from out-of-town politicians who don’t have to live under his disastrous policies,” he stated.
