HALEDON — Bob and Nick Finamore needed more than one book to tell their life stories.
The borough natives, who grew up on Barbour Street, released a second memoir to chronicle their adulthood after the success of their debut autobiography, which was about their upbringing in an Italian American household in the 1940s and early 1950s.
The new book, “Bond of Brothers: Our Stories, Our Legacies,” traces their journeys from the hallways of the former Central High School in Paterson to the bedside of their 101-year-old mother, the late Teresa Finamore of Wayne.
Nick Finamore said the paths he and his younger brother took were different, but that “we always stayed together” for the benefit of each other.
Bob Finamore, 84, an Army veteran of the Vietnam War, retired as the athletic director of Manchester Regional High School. He played football for the Tigers of Memphis State University — now the University of Memphis — and later signed with the New York Jets. He lives in Wayne.
His brother, 85, who lives in the Annandale section of Clinton Township, retired as an AT&T Inc. executive. He was a concert pianist and a licensed pilot — with an ownership interest in a single-engine airplane — as well as a seafarer, who enjoyed sailing around the hooked peninsula of eastern Massachusetts.
The octogenarian brothers have a combined five children, eight grandchildren and a great-grandson.
The 294-page book conveys many unforgettable memories, including one recollection about helping to save dolphins from sewage pollution — an endeavor that also introduced “Shore to Please” vanity license plates to New Jersey drivers.
Woven throughout the book are secrets, the brothers say, on how they maintained their enduring connection.
